Bottle Shock
I wish that movies with ‘wine’ as their central theme were made more often. It has been 4 years since the release of that classic ‘Sideways’, and now finally in 2008 we once again have reason to swirl our wine in delight.
The movie is called Bottle Shock and tells the true story of how Napa, California was put on the world map of wine. It culminates in the historic 1976 blind wine tasting in Paris, where wines from California’s Napa Valley recorded a shocking victory over France’s traditional noble varietals.
This was made possible by Steven Spurrier, played by Alan Rickman, who travels to Napa in search of competition to save his ailing Parisian wine shop.
Bottle Shock is a fun, feel-good film filled with soul and fine wine… a good time for even the non-oenophiles among us!
See the Bottle Shock trailer below and decide for yourself…
Cheers!

Hi Ryan!
No, not that I’m aware of. It’s only just been released so I’m sure it will be out on DVD in the coming months.
Cheers!

I don’t think even the filmakers are pretending the film is telling a true story.
“It’s a tissue of lies. I’ve heard the only good part is Alan Rickman,” said Spurrier, now a wine writer and consultant based in London. http://www.avenuevine.com/archives/004298.html
And you can’t decide just by seeing the trailer
Thank you for the insight Peter…
I suppose Hollywoods version of the truth can be distorted to say the least. Though it might add entertainment value, it does little justice to those who know the truth.
