Going Sideways

You owe it to yourself as a self professed wine enthusiast and welcome visitor of My Wine Cellar to see Sideways. The movie, directed by Alexander Payne and starring Paul Giamatti and Thomas Haden Church, takes you on a rather comical trip through California’s Napa Valley, where the twosome engage in numerous wine tastings… amongst other things ;)

So, without giving away too much of the plot I will leave it at that. I will be interested to hear your own opinion on the movie, so please remember to check back with My Wine Cellar and post your comments below.

If you’re curious and would like to watch the Sideways trailer first, simply click play on the Quicktime player directly below.

Cheers!

Sideways is without a doubt one of my all-time favourite movies. The trailer really doesn’t do the movie much justice… Even those without much interest in wine, with only a mild sense of humour, will absolutely love this film!

@Andreea: One of my favorite lines in the movie… ‘I am not drinking any f****** Merlot!’

I enjoyed Sideways, especially the speach about Pinot Noir.

But maybe its time you took another look at it because none of it took place in Napa Valley.

Thank you for the correction Peter. You are quite right in that the Sideways film location has been incorrectly stated as Napa Valley many times over… I myself falling prey to the perpetuating blunder :)

The movie was in fact set and filmed in the Santa Ynez Valley and other locations in Santa Barbara County. Perhaps this says something about peoples perception towards American wine regions and the unfair favouritism that the Napa Valley is afforded?
