Gôut de Terroir
Or Terroir for short :) The term that tries to describe the properties of a vineyard with regard to it’s soil conditions and the attributes imparted on the resulting wine. Since I see this word thrown around with reckless abandon, sometimes correctly and more often not, I thought it a good idea to clarify its meaning.

I myself feel that the term is quite overused and more ‘fashionable’ than anything else. Nonetheless, it cannot be denied that soil conditions certainly play a role in resulting wine quality and nuance. To what degree, we can only speculate as the soil system of a vineyard is so complex.
Cheers!

I think a lot of people try to come accross as a wine connoisseur by using words like “terroir” and often, end up making idiots of themselves by getting the meaning wrong.
