Marvelous Muscat

To the South African wine novice ‘Muscat’ might not mean much to you. But, it is in fact an important grape variety grown all over the world. And yes, it certainly is grown in South Africa.

What if I said Muscat is synonymous with Muscadel… perhaps now you follow? Of course, everyone knows South Africa’s favorite fortified wine. Red and White Muscadel are as South African as you get.

…you’d be lying if you told me that you’ve never heard the guy on the street corner screaming ‘druiwwwwe… Hanepoot!’

And then I think, as a Capetonian, you’d be lying if you told me that you’ve never heard the guy on the street corner screaming ‘druiwwwwe… Hanepoot!’ Sound familiar?  Well, if you didn’t already know the common South African table grape, Hanepoot, is also the Muscat grape variety.

I hope, by my brief explanation, that the Muscat grape variety now has a little more meaning to those who were previously unaware of the grapes local prominence!

Cheers!
