Power to the Consumer!
For far too long has the wine industry being pouring wine down the throats of consumers. Behind the facade of a label, wine finds its way onto the tables of the average wine consumer. The problem lies in that fact that the wine fraternity is such a bottomless pit of information, guarded intently by wine snobs. How is the average person supposed to truly understand wine, and thus make an informed decision about their purchase?
The ‘traditional’ attitude of the wine industry has just lowered consumer confidence and instilled uncertainty in the very people who intend to support the industry. In a sense people have become ‘scared’ of wine.
‘I believe that we are on the cusp of a ‘wine evolution’.’
But before I get carried away let me say that this is all changing. I believe that we are on the cusp of a ‘wine evolution’. No longer does the consumer have to rely on old-fashioned marketing ploys to select wine. The wine industry has finally been opened up and exposed to the general population… and no longer just the aristocrats sitting on their Chateau balconies
This is largely due to the advent of the internet and associated technology. Information can no longer be withheld and reaches a much larger audience. People are being empowered to make their own decisions and form their own opinions.
I believe that this is a healthy situation whereby both the consumer and the wine industry stand to benefit tremendously. Power to the consumer!
Cheers!

Yes, yes, yes! I came across your Blog via mi-vine, and you express exactly what younger and/or emerging wine consumers (women, blacks, Asians) are experiencing in countries such as South Africa and China. South Africa exports 60% of its wines, while we have a whole untapped potential market right on our doorstep. But we don’t bother to make wine appreciation accessible to them. My company has just brought out a revolutionary new product to bring real, down-to-earth wine knowledge to the mass market so that they can make up their own minds, and you won’t believe the resistance we’ve encountered from the establishment. Anyway, we’re determined to help change this – thanks for highlighting the issue. You can check us out on http://www.tastemaster.co.za. Cheers!
