Summer Sangria

There’s reason to smile… the South African summer will soon be upon us :) It may be obvious that I enjoy a good glass of wine pretty much any day of the year, but on the side I am a secret Brandy lover too. And when these two are combined with fresh summer fruits on a sweltering summer day, what could be better!? I’m referring to Sangria of course. There are two main versions of Sangria, Portuguese and Spanish, and consequently there are MANY different varieties out there. But here below for the benefit of the My Wine Cellar family is my personal favorite recipe:

2 Bottles of regular red ‘table wine’

250ml Brandy

50ml Triple Sec

1 liter soda water

500ml Orange Juice

¼ cup sugar

2 Oranges (Sliced)

Limes (Sliced)

Strawberries (Sliced)

*Topped with Ice

*Serves 10 people… or 5 I guess ;)

The fantastic thing about Sangria is that you can ‘tweak’ it to your personal taste. The type of wine, amount of brandy and type of fruit etc… the choice is yours!

Cheers!

Hi! I agree with you that Sangria can be tweaked to suit our personal taste. I’m also making my own version of Sangria. I’ve tried the red-wine based Sangria and now I’m making my own White Wine Sangria. I hope I can join you for a drink in your Wine Cellar too. Cheers!

Anytime Valerie :) I myself haven’t tried a white wine Sangria, and wonder what wine would work best… perhaps a fruity Gewurtztraminer?

Cheers!
