The Origin of Wine

Ever wondered where wine comes from? Grapes of course J But seriously, where did wine first ‘begin’? Well, let me first say that it wasn’t in France… in fact neither was it anywhere in Europe!

‘I guess you could say wine production has come a long way since 6000BC.’

Archaeological evidence has suggested that wine, made by grape fermentation, was first produced in Israel, Georgia and Iran as early as 6000BC… that’s way before you were born J Obviously these wines were primitive and very different from the wines we have today. I guess you could say wine production has come a long way since 6000BC.

However, more recent archaeological evidence suggests the possibility that grapes were fermented together with rice, to produce fermented beverages in China as early as 7000BC.

So, it’s hard to know exactly when wine first ‘began’, all we do know is that it was a long time ago. Whenever and wherever wine was first discovered, I think we can all agree that it was a discovery of great importance… at least to all of us who enjoy a glass of the good stuff!

Cheers!
